SME caravan, again on 2012!

General Santos City  (January 27, 2012) – The Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Caravan of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will have another rounds in Region 12.

 

The regular caravan will be hosted in Tacurong City.  DTI-Sultan Kudarat Office will be in partnership with the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) on April 25-26, 2012.  The same caravan was held last July 26-27 at the Sarangani Gymnasium, Provincial Capitol Park Compound, Alabel, Sarangani Province.

The objectives of SME Caravan are to improve access of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to government and private sector services particularly to areas where the provision of business development services may be limited, and to increase awareness of micro, small and medium enterprises on business development services provided by the government and private sector entities.

On the other hand, the Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development (BSMED) of DTI will also do an enhanced caravan in the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Cotabato and Kidapawan as well as again in the capital town of Alabel.

DTI 12 counts on industry clustering approach for business development

Koronadal City  (January 06, 2012) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Region 12 continues to use the industry cluster approach as a strategy in industry development.

 

“Among the priority industries this year are tuna, bangus, and pangasius for fishery sector; and muscovado, mango, and banana for crops sector,” according to Regional Director Ibrahim Guiamadel.

 

“We are also looking at bamboo, tourism, coconut, rubber and palm oil since these also present lots of economic potentials for the region.”

 

“The DTI nonetheless leads the industry cluster for the business process outsourcing (BPO) development in Region 12. We are also doing some allied trade activities for mining sector.”

 

Director Guiamadel explained that based on the conceptual framework, industry clusters are groups of inter-related industries that drive wealth creation in a region, primarily through the eventual export of goods and services.

Sultan Kudarat MSMED Council Sets Target for Business Week


     The local government units, government agencies and business sector composing the Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) Council in Sultan Kudarat are joining hands to improve the business climate in Tacurong City by staging the 1st Tacurong City Business Week from July 12 – 16, 2010. Most of the activities shall take place at the Notre Dame of Tacurong gymnasium, Tacurong City.


    Dubbed “SULONG Tacurong” (Sustain Unlimited Livelihood Opportunities by Nestling the Growth of MSMEs), the weeklong event shall be highlighted by a number of business activities geared towards attaining certain goals.

P601 Million Investments Committed during 18th Minbizcon

The investment matching facilitated by the Department of Trade & Industry 12 during the 18th Mindanao Business Conference generated a total of P601 million investment commitments.

Investment areas include production of cardava banana, moringa or malunggay, fresh water shrimp or ulang, barako coffee and hotel development.

DTI-12 took on the strategy of inviting a prospective buyer who will dictate his market requirement to the prospective investors.

Buyer for cardava banana is MAGIRCO of Magpet, Cotabato who is into banana chips production. He sells to Davao processors who add various flavors to his first fry chips. He requires raw cardava banana for processing. 

A total of 1,000 hectares of land in Sen. Ninoy Aquino and Sarangani were committed for contract growing by identified investors. Total investments for the project is P54 million.

Coffee board eyes Southwestern Mindanao as production hub for 'Barako' coffee

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Sept. 10 – The Philippine Coffee Board (PCB) is reportedly planning to develop at least 1,000 hectares of new coffee plantations for Liberica or Barako coffee variety in Southwestern Mindanao.

It as part of PCB's efforts to help build up the region as a major producer of prime coffee products.

Nelly Nita Dillera, business development division chief of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 12, said Thursday that PCB officials have earlier started negotiations with coffee farmers here for a production partnership for Liberica coffee and other premium coffee varieties.

“They initially offered to provide the Liberica coffee seedlings and subsidies for various production inputs,” she told the Philippines News Agency.

Dillera said a land owner from Senator Ninoy Aquino town in Sultan Kudarat already offered to meet the required 1,000 hectares for the proposed plantation for Liberica coffee, which is presently grown mainly in Luzon.
